The Mississippi Department of Child Protection Services was created as the state’s lead child welfare agency by the 2016 Mississippi Legislature, separating it from the Mississippi Department of Human Services. In May 2016, Governor Phil Bryant signed Senate Bill 2179 establishing MDCPS as an independent agency with its commissioner serving as a member of the Governor’s cabinet. An increase in state funding from the Mississippi Legislature has enabled MDCPS to begin enhancing its infrastructure and increasing the number of social workers employed to meet the needs of children and families across the state.

The Mississippi Library Commission serves as a free public library service for eligible Mississippi residents who are unable to read standard print due to a visual, physical or organic reading disability and for institutions which serve these eligible individuals (schools, hospitals, living facilities, etc).

MIB is a leading employer of blind Mississippians. MIB offers employment opportunities at all levels of the organization, from direct labor manufacturing jobs to service jobs like document imaging to management staff positions. MIB is an agency of the State of Mississippi, but receives no regular appropriation from the Mississippi Legislature. MIB funds its manufacturing operations and employment through the sale of products it manufactures.

The Mississippi Department of Banking and Consumer Finance's (DBCF) mission is to regulate, supervise, and safeguard financial institutions chartered and licensed in Mississippi. With a vision of excellence in financial supervision, DBCF conducts examinations of all state-chartered banks, thrifts, credit unions, independent trust companies, mortgage lenders, small loan companies, insurance premium finance companies, motor vehicle sales companies, pawn brokers, title pledge lenders, consumer loan brokers, check cashers (payday lenders), money transmitters, credit availability companies, and debt management service providers.

The Mississippi Auctioneer Commission is a State licensing and regulatory authority that oversees compliance with the Mississippi Code of 1972 annotated, Chapter 4, Title 73. As a licensing and regulatory agency, we examine each applicants educational credentials, make final decisions concerning the licensing of auctioneers, livestock auctioneers, and galleries/ firms, receive and investigate complaints, and determine disciplinary actions against licensees and others who violate the Mississippi Auctioneers Licensing Act.

The Attorney General is the chief legal officer and advisor for the State of Mississippi on both civil and criminal matters. Her responsibility is to represent public officials and governmental agencies and to issue legal opinions that interpret state law. The Attorney General has the sole power under Mississippi law to bring or defend a lawsuit on behalf of the state. She acts as counsel to state agencies to defend them or bring suit on their behalf. Most importantly, the Office is charged with the representation of the people of the State of Mississippi.

The Mississippi Athletic Commission consists of a panel of board members which have all been appointed by Governor Phil Bryant. These board members work very closely together to sanction and regulate all boxing, mixed martial arts, wrestling and all contact fights that take place in the state of Mississippi.  It is their mission and goal to maintain the integrity of these sports and to protect the reputation that this commission has worked so hard to achieve.

In 1968, the Mississippi Legislature created the Mississippi Arts Commission as the official grants-making and service agency for the arts. Since then the Commission has broadened its role as an active supporter and promoter of the arts in community life and arts education. Through the arts, diverse communities of all sizes can better identify shared values, create vibrant public spaces, and enhance the effectiveness of schools. The arts also attract visitors who leave with a strong, positive image of Mississippi. Fostering excellence in the arts provides the inspiration to generate a higher quality of life for all citizens.

The Mississippi Department of Archives and History was founded in 1902. It is the second-oldest state department of archives and history in the country. A comprehensive historical agency, the department collects, preserves, and provides access to the archival resources of the state, administers museums and historic sites, and oversees statewide programs for historic preservation, government records management, and publications.
